Malaysia’s King Takes Stake in Southern Alliance Mining as Group Deepens Rare Earth Push Tipranks - Tipranks - Tue Oct 13, 10:38AM CDT Southern Alliance Mining has announced that His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, the Sultan of Johor and Malaysia’s monarch, has acquired a 2.25% stake in the company via an off-market deal with managing director and controlling shareholder Dato’ Sri Pek Kok Sam.
The transaction, involving 14.33 million shares at S$0.425 each, was executed at an 11.84% premium to the market price and does not involve the company itself, leaving Pek Kok Sam with a majority stake and control intact.
The company stresses that the share transfer brings no change to its board, management or strategic direction, but represents a symbolic milestone given its long-established mining presence in Johor.
The move comes as Southern Alliance Mining accelerates its strategic diversification into rare earth elements through its 40% interest in MCRE and the proposed acquisition of Paramount Synergy, underscoring its ambitions to deepen exposure to critical minerals amid rising global demand.
is a Malaysian mining group listed on the Catalist board of the Singapore Exchange, operating established iron ore assets and conducting gold exploration in Johor.
